(SPI)- Founded in 1937, SPI is the plastics industry trade association representing the third largest manufacturing industry in the United States. SPI’s member companies represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw materials suppliers.

SPI’s BioPlastic Council

Is a special interest group focused on the support of standards development and growth of the bioplastics industry through:

  1. Educating the plastics industry, government and stakeholders.
  2. Articulating clear and consistent terminology, definitions and descriptions of the different bioplastics options.
  3. Providing strategic advice to the plastics industry, government and stakeholders and promote harmonization of environmental policies.
  4. Acting as the go to source for information about the bioplastics industry.
Sustainable Packaging Coalition

Sustainable Packaging Coalition®

(SPC)- is an industry working group dedicated to a more robust environmental vision for packaging. Through strong member support, an informed and science-based approach, supply chain collaborations and continuous outreach, we endeavor to build packaging systems that encourage economic prosperity and a sustainable flow of materials. The SPC is a project of GreenBlue®, a nonprofit that equips business with the science and resources to make products more sustainable.

USDA BioPreferred

USDA BioPreferred®

program is to promote the increased purchase and use of biobased products. The program is expected to promote economic development, creating new jobs and providing new markets for farm commodities. To the extent that the BioPreferred program achieves its purpose, the increased purchase of biobased products will also be expected to reduce petroleum consumption, increase the use of renewable resources, better manage the carbon cycle, and may contribute to reducing adverse environmental and health impacts.
